Who is your best friend?

 I have friends in the school. My best friend is Mary. She was many good qualities. I like her because she is so kind and gentle. She never tells a lie. She always helps me in need. Do you know how Mary became my best friend?

One day Uma, my classmate, brought some fancy pens to school. The pens had little wooden dolls at one end. I like the pens very much. I saw Uma put the pens in her bag before she went out to play. I wanted to have a closer look at the pens. I opened Uma’s bag and took out the pens. Just then I heard a voice. I looked back and found Mary standing behind me. `What are you doing?’ Mary asked. I had the pens in my hand. I did not know what to say. I felt like a thief.  Mary said, `Rosy, these are Uma’s pens. Do not you know that it is wrong to take anybody’s things without asking? It is called stealing. You could have asked Uma to show her pens to you.’ I felt very ashamed myself. `Give them to me’ said Mary, `I shall put them back in Uma’s bag.’ Mary opened Uma’s bag and put the pens back into it. At that very moment, our teacher came in. he was very angry with Mary for opening Uma’s bag. I kept quiet as I was afraid. Mary did not tell the teacher that it was I who had taken out the pens. When Mary and I were alone, I told her how sorry I was. She received the scolding because of me. I promised her that I would never again take anybody’s things without asking. Mary smiled at me said, `I am glad that you know what you did was wrong.’ Do not you think that Mary behaved wonderfully? Ever since that day, she has become my best friend.
